On McConnell freeze-up, Nikki Haley calls US Senate ‘most privileged nursing home’

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has made a striking statement about the US Senate, referring to it as “the most privileged nursing home in the country.” These comments came in response to concerns about the age and performance of senior politicians, particularly Mitch McConnell, the 81-year-old Republican leader in the Senate.

During an appearance on Fox News, Nikki Haley remarked, “What I will say is, right now, the Senate is the most privileged nursing home in the country.” She acknowledged McConnell’s achievements but suggested that there comes a time to step aside.

Mitch McConnell recently experienced a freeze-up lasting over 30 seconds during a public appearance, the second such incident in just over a month. This raised concerns about the age and health of some members of Congress. Haley stated, “No one should feel good about seeing (McConnell’s freezes) any more than we should feel good about seeing Dianne Feinstein, any more than we should feel good about a lot of what’s happening or seeing Joe Biden’s decline.”

Dianne Feinstein, aged 90, is a Democratic senator from California whose health and mental capacity have been questioned. She has announced her retirement for next year. Joe Biden, aged 80, is the oldest president ever elected and would be 86 by the end of a potential second term.

Haley expressed the need for age-related tests for individuals making important decisions regarding national security, the economy, and other critical issues. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that leaders are “at the top of their game” while expressing concerns about the current state of Congress.
